Home Remedies for Neuropathy in the Feet

Foot neuropathy can be so painful and can limit your activities significantly. Home remedies can be helpful in alleviating discomfort in the feet.

Epsom Salt Baths

Epsom salt baths are an effective home remedy for nerve pain. Epsom salt contains magnesium sulfate, which can help reduce inflammation and improve circulation. To use this home remedy, add two cups of Epsom salt to a warm bath and soak your feet for 20-30 minutes. Repeat this process several times per week as needed.

Peppermint Oil

Peppermint oil is known for its cooling and relaxing properties. It can also help improve circulation and reduce inflammation. To use this home remedy, mix 10 drops of peppermint oil with one tablespoon of carrier oil like coconut oil. Massage the mixture into your feet for 10-15 minutes per day. Repeat this process as needed until you see improvement in your symptoms.

Exercise

Exercise is important for overall health and can also help to relieve the symptoms of neuropathy. Exercise increases blood flow to the nerves and helps to reduce inflammation. Low-impact exercises, such as swimming or bicycling, are best. Avoid exercises that put pressure on the feet, such as running or jogging.

Topical Treatments

There are several topical treatments that may help to relieve neuropathic pain. These include Capsaicin cream, which contains a substance derived from chili peppers that can help to reduce pain signals, and Lidocaine patches, which numbs the area where they are applied. Always follow the directions on the packaging when using these products.

Vitamins and Supplements

Certain vitamins and supplements have been shown to be effective in treating neuropathy. These include Vitamin B-12 and Alpha-lipoic acid. Speak with your doctor before taking any vitamins.

Changes In Lifestyle

Making changes to your lifestyle can also help to relieve neuropathic pain. Quit smoking, as smoking can worsen nerve damage. Limit or avoid alcohol consumption, as alcohol can also worsen nerve damage. Maintain a healthy weight to reduce pressure on the feet and legs. And finally, get regular exercise to increase blood flow and reduce inflammation.
